Grilled Cheese Like A Boss

Remember when you were a kid and a grilled cheese consisted of one Kraft single sandwiched between two pieces of Iron Kids Bread?  Me too.  But let’s face it, we’re not kids anymore, and that wimpy version of grilled cheese just isn’t going to cut it anymore.  It’s time for the real deal here folks.  Let me introduce you to my very grown up, extremely satisfying, super yummy Grilled Cheese Sandwich 2.0…

I microwaved the sweet potato for 2 minutes, then I sauteed it for about 5 minutes on medium high to make it crispy.  While it was sauteing I seasoned it with sea salt and cinnamon.

What’s Sprouted Bread? Glad you asked! Unlike traditional breads, sprouted bread is when the grains are soaked in a highly controlled environment until sprouting occurs.  This sprouting releases enzymes that partially break down protein and carbohydrate, which makes the grain easier to digest.  Normally, nutrients are lost during the digestive process of grains, but thanks to the sprouts doing the dirty work, you get a higher vitamin content.

I added olive oil to the outside of the bread, then cooked it on medium for about 10 minutes, until the cheese was gooey…

    Never thought of adding sweet potato – that sounds delicious. I like to swap out the sprouted grain bread for two thick slices of brioche – does that decrease the nutritional value a lot?

    • Paul,

      The sweet potato added a really great flavor and extra crunch. Brioche would be delicious. Depending on the thickness of the slices, it may add calories. You won’t get the added vitamins that come along with sprouted bread, but I think brioche sounds great!
